Re: intakes? chips?

Go with a custom tune (Nelson, Wheatleys, Wait4me ect.).

I have a K&N FIPK intake. Works really well.

Re: intakes? chips?

Where would you find what?

I got my intake on ebay, or most aftermarket parts stores have them. Do a search.

Re: intakes? chips?

dont expect 500hp from a cold air intake and programmer. You might notice only a little increase in power. A custom tune is way better than a programer tho.

You won't notice much from a CAI. I wouldnt spend $300+ on one unless you find a used one for $100 or so. You might notice a little more power with a programmer but definatly not worth the 500$ you pay for them new. Theres always people selling them for $200-$250 who go with custom tunes instead.

A custom pcm tune from www.blackbearperformance.com is only like $200 for the cable tune or $150 for just the mail order which is still 50X better than a programmer. Its the best bang for your buck even if your truck is still stock.

My truck has a flowmaster 40 series on it - had it when I bought it.

First, I added K&N FIPK Gen II. When I added that, I noticed the noise at first. Whenever you gun the throttle, you hear a momentary "gulping" sound before the truck kicks in and accelerates. Asides from the noise, I gained a negligible amount of MPG and a feeling that seems to be the engine having an "easier" time while accelerating without changing down. Power at high RPM >4500 was a bit more pronounced.

After that, I played around with a Hypertech Power Programmer III that I got on eBay for a STEAL. I must have used about 5 gallons of gas tweaking with that thing and I ended up with something which felt really good. I confirmed it was pretty decent against your typical hot rodders
Yeah, it's not a custom tune, but it feels good.

When I REALLY noticed it was when I programmed back to Stock settings before taking the truck into the dealer to get the sticking gauges replaced.

I know a lot of it is down to perception a lot of the time, but these things do make a difference.

I do agree with 01silverado03z400 though - don't expect a 500hp truck from some bolt-on CAI and programmer!
