96camaro wont start

wondering if anyone has +/- any ideas of what can be the problem my car has been sitting for about 6months cause of bad motor/engine when i finally do replace the engine 6months later my car will not crank, start, fire or anything my mechanic replace everything we thought would have been the issue like the lock cylinder(the wires was shortened) brought brand new sets of keys correct chip size and measurement all from dealership brought brand new car battery....now when i put the key into the ignition turn to POWER ON i dont hear no click or ticking sound whatsoever, car is stuck in park gear as well my factured alarm lights(anti-theft security light) on dash will blink really fast....the dealership says sounds and looks like my bcm is screwed and i will need an new one but after getting under my car and poking the starter with an screwdriver it will run for 3seconds and shut right back off doesnt really sound like $800 of work???

so tapping the side of the starter housing it will crank? That would say a possible bum brush in the starter (a mechaninc should know this). The only running for 3 seconds sounds like something missing with the fuel/ign system.

Right off the bat, if that is what you're saying, 'a tap to the side of the housing and the starter works', my first suspicion is bad brush, about $8 to replace instead of the $800 BCM that seems to not be the problem.

Re: 96camaro wont start

Hi, I am new to this but looking at this thread it sounds like you have the smae problem as me, I have a '98 Camaro which has also been standing for some time, gone to try and start it with no joy, put a new battery on it and there is no crank, I have some technical knowledge but this sounds like an immobilser problem to me, I have put a feed to the starter to test and it turns over OK and fires for a few seconds then dies, I can here the fuel pump prime up when I turn on the ignition but the light on the dash that says 'SECURITY' stays lit, will the keys need recoding to the car or is it more serious, I would be grateful for any help as I am in Spain and there is'nt any dealers nearby.

Re: 96camaro wont start

Your problem sounds like a classic passlock (security) issue for sure. Try cleaning the key and the lock cylinder.

Re: 96camaro wont start

Tried that bypass after reading some old threads, even when i put the key in and check resistance further down the wiring it all checks out do you know the location of the module the wiring goes to?
