03 S-10 installing remote starter

I am installing a remote starter on an 03 S-10 2.2L, it would start then immediately shut-off. Which from the troubleshooting in the manual tells me the security system is kicking on. So I got the DEI 556L. but I cannot find the wires in the vehicle for the key resistance.

anyone have the complete wiring guide for hokking up a remote starter in this vehicle. Where every wire is and color, so I can recheck everything and find those wires for the key.

Joe

Have you tried (the12volt.com) site? When the link comes up, scroll down the page, there is some wiring info. They also have forums.

Re: 03 S-10 installing remote starter

Yes I have tried been to the12volt but there is not a vehicle wiring for the 03 S-10.

I found the wiring on bulldogsecurity.com. but I am still a lil confused on how the DEI 556L gets hooked up.

there are 2 wires in which I am confused.

YELLOW (R-code input) - Gets connected to the ignition switch side of the Passlock II system's cut resistance wire.

BLACK/YELLOW (R-code output) - Gets connected to the other end of the cut resistance wire, not toward the ignition switch.

Now I know it is pretty much saying I need to cut the ignition switch key resistance wire and connected these 2 wires one to each end, thats fine but I am not sure which wire to do this to, there are 3 wires (1 is not used) and then there are 2 others a YELLOW (+) and an ORANGE/BLACK (-) , so which one do I cut - I would assume the yellow but am not totaly sure. and also on the bulldog security website says to strip back, not cut, each wire (YELLOW and ORANGE/BLACK) and connect their bypass module #791. so this confuses me even more.

Re: 03 S-10 installing remote starter

Bulldogs's bypass is totally different than what you have. Yes, if you take off your shroud on your column you'll see 3 tiny wires that go up into your ignition cyl.. On GM trucks it'll be the yellow, orange/black or just black, and usually white.

The yellow you cut in 2. The yellow of the bypass goes towards the ignition switch, the black/yellow to the other end of the yellow wire you cut. The black goes to the black/orange. Then you have red to 12v power, black to ground and blue to the ground when RS of the remote starter.

Re: 03 S-10 installing remote starter

I figured it out. If I would have read the entire install manual I would have had this done earlier...lol I was just looking at the witing diagram in the manual.

ponchonutty, that is exactly how it needs to be connected.

thank you.

after getting it connected and replacing the remote starter module and remote the truck is remote starting fine.

Glad that you got it. Like I always say: When all else fails, read the directions.

Re: 03 S-10 installing remote starter

yea I was confused because it was saying to cut the wire and connected the YELLOW wire and the BLACK YELLOW to it - which I got how to do that but I was not sure which wire to cut. then went I went back through all the wires and read what they were for - it says to to make sure the BLACK wire is connected to the ORANGE/BLACK wire in the car and thats when it hit me what needed to be done.

And to make it all worse once I got done installing this the yesterday it still wouldn't start - nothing at all no response from the remote starter, so I replaced the battery in remote and still nothing. So I had a friend exchange the module and remote for a new one. he got it from one of his friends who sells them at a local flea market and now it is working great..

the worse thing about it is I am installing for a friend in his step fathers truck (christmas gift) and he (step father) doesn't know about it and he never lets anyone borrow this truck so he had to get the truck 3 different times - 1st he begged him to use it giving a good excuse why he needed it, then I figure out it had PASSLOCK II and needed to get the by-pass module. The 2nd time he just took it when he was not home, and then yesterday they went out of town, thanks to his mom, so we could get the truck for a couple hours to get it working. Man it's been a hected week.
