Use of AC power with Car Audio

Hello,
I'm preparing a Street theatre performance which requires the use of audio. Due to the reduced dimensions of the structure, and for aesthetic reasons, I have thought about using car audio components, because they too are of reduced dimensions.... amplifier, speakers, subwoofer. My question is: Is it possible, via an AC 220V/12V converter, to connect a car amplifier to a mains circuit rather than use a car battery? The audio input signal would be via an audio mixer (as opposed to the usual car CD/Radio), to which there would be connected a microphone, a guitar and an audio input (probably my iPod) with a musical/rythmic base. I would greatly appreciate, also, any advice on optimising sound quality. The nature of the performance requires the sound to be projected to the OUTSIDE as opposed to the INSIDE (of a vehicle, for example). That's a later question, though. The most important one is the possibility of using AC power via the transformer.

i don't think you will find a unit that puts out enough amperage... car audio doesn't matter so much as voltage, more by amperage

sure, they make fairly large AC to DC convertors - you see them all the time at stereo comps where demo vehicles have to play loud tunes all day.

As for projecting the sound outside the car, you will have to go into a little more detail.
