Southbend?

Hey guys, I gots another question for y'all. First off, I have a ACT2100 in my car now that is slipping like a retarded bitch and its kind of a pain. I dont even want to know whats going to happen with some boost. Well, I was going to go to a ACT 2600 or a Zoom stage II or maybe maybe a Exedy stage II clutch. I figured it would end up a 2600 as I should be able to find a decent pressure plate for pretty cheap, get a sprung 6 puck disk, have the stock flywheel resurfaced and call 'er good. Well, there is a guy that did a part out quite some time ago and is now really trying to get rid of his shit. Hes got a Southbend FE SS clutch and a Findanza flywheel for a very good price. Its apparently the "street/strip stage 4" clutch but I dont really know what kind of torque it can handle. To be honest I really dont care, I bet its more than this glazed ass 2100 can. I will throwing like 320 ft lbs at it this summer and I am sure a stage 4 any reputable brand should be able to take it fine. I can always just get a new disc for it later if my plans out grow it. Anyway, I was just curious if anyone has ever had a Southbend clutch and/or a Fidanza flywheel. I know the flywheel is something debatable, but being that the flywheel and clutch are already worn together and its so cheap I really dont care. I drove my buddies Del Sol with one and I thought it was nice as hell, that bastard revved quick as hell!

I really shouldnt be doing this especially since I am eyeing up that nitrous kit pretty hard but I think I am just going to have to bite my lip and do it, I am getting both for a LOT less than I should be.... I'll just have to make sure to save extra during Christmas break. Boy, now if I could just have someone drop some 850's and DSMlink in my lap I would be fucking SET!

Re: Southbend?

I've never heard of that brand, but maybe Kevin can input something here. Or you can try searching for it over at tuners or ask them about it.

Re: Southbend?

I did do a couple searches, one is obviously biased though (testimonials on the Southbend site) but the local board members all seem to be pretty huge on it. I searched that board and there were quite a few members including shop owners that were very impressed with their stuff. I have read just about every thread in the performance section on this board for the last couple years and I cant remember ever reading about Southbend so I thought I woudl ask. People say that they hold just as much or more power than the ACT 2600, but they have considerably less pedal weight. Honestly I dont give two shits about clutch weight, not to be cocky but I have pretty strong legs and I wouldnt mind a left leg work out on the way to work every day if it means that the cluth wont be slipping and shit like the current one does.

And silvr, I know you'd be biased toward Zoom, but do you have any reason to not like Southbend other than the fact that your dad is an engineer for Zoom?

My dad isin't an engineer, he is a salesman for them.

I havent heard anything bad about southbend but I dont know anyone that has used them. They might be fine for a replacement clutch but for something that is going to be given hell. I dont think it would last.

Werd. I run ZOOM Stage 2 w/ factory flywheel and I f'n love it. Grabs like hell. And I love the feel of it. Its stiffer than factory but not crazy. Next clutch swap I do in any of the cars will more than likely be this same clutch. Never heard of Southbend but that doesn't nessesarily mean its bad. I can't tell you whether to get it or not since I've never used one.
