1997 SL2 Manual transmission leak
Ive got a 1997 SL2 that leaks oil, apparently from the bolt on the bottom of the transmission (not a drain plug) at a pretty significant rate.... Here is my plan... I plan on pulling the bolt and wrapping it with teflon so the tranny holds oil, but why did it get like this in the first place? My other plan was to lose the red dexron fluid in it, and run 90 weight gear lube in it, I figure it wont leak as fast, and if the tranny is on its way out, what can I hurt. Any insight would be great here. I have a 94 SL2 parts car, with a 5 speed as well, is that transmission the same/will it interchange with my 97 twin cam 5 speed? Thanks all!

Re: 1997 SL2 Manual transmission leak
The fluid for the manual transmission is ATF. Giving the transmission gear oil is of certain death.
It is likely a seal that can be repaired by taking the transmission away from the engine. http://www.differentracing.com/tech_...gearratio.html |
