Did you get a Recall Notice from Ford? The Redundant Speed Control Deactivation Switch has been deemed defective and should be replaced. This switch can catch fire at any time, even parked in a garage at 2am. The result can be devastating!!

Ford will disconnect the suspect switch now, and replace it (if defective) and add a fused wire harness to the circuit when they get more stock on hand.

I'd hate to tell you to repair what you have now, then find out later your house burnt down.

Here's the Circuit overview.

Yes.. 1994 was recalled. All this is happening this year, you should get a notice from Ford as they search DMV records...

Check here for some details.

Re: cruise control quit

Ford sent me a recall notice in september, it only took about 10 min for them to disable the cruise control and they told me that they will have the parts in Jan(they will install a fused wiring harness at the master cylinder wich will make it safe) I would get this looked at ASAP, and until then Ford recommends that you keep your car parked away from your house because the car could be a fire danger at anytime......Good Luck

Re: cruise control quit

Another footnote for clarification...

Ford will simply unplug the switch as a temporary measure. After it's unplugged there is no danger.

After the parts arrive, and you finally get your repair appointment, they won't replace the switch unless it's bad at that time... they'll only add the fused adapter.

To get the job done right, buy your own kit and do it yourself. The kit has the switch, harness adapter, and large zip cord.
  • Unplug the switch.
  • Screw the switch out.
  • Screw the new switch in.
  • Connect the (fused) harness adapter to the harness, connect to switch.
  • Zip cord the brake fluid reservoir down as a precaution.

As soon as I got my notification I took the car to Ford. They totally removed the switch, then taped the end of the harness to keep the dirt out. My assumption is that they will have to put in the new switch as well as the fused harness.

Vickyc54's question has still not been answered and she obviously has a problem, never mind the faulty switch recall.

Re: cruise control quit

Hello Fellas
Got some pics of one that burned up. It's possible that it's from the defective switch. I've got more just e mail me. [email protected] I know some one asked about pictures of the damage a while back. I just picked the car this week.

I have some of these switches if you want to try replacing it, don't worry it wouldn't be from the burned car. Ha Ha
