interior door handles?

last week i bought an 87 formula 350, the interior door handles to open the door from the inside no longer worked so i took the panels off to check them out, seems someone went through the effort to break the bar the holds the metal linkage on to the handle itself. the whole mechanism needs o be replaced but it happens to be riveted to the door. has anyone ever replaced these if so how did you get them off? i just might have to break the sawzall out and just cut the bolts off and use regular harware to bolt in the replacements.
