Unwanted Paint

Alright about a month ago somebody did a hit and run number on my car. So now there are a couple of nice long white streaks on the side of my car. Is there any easy way to get rid of these streaks besides taking it to an autobody shop and having them repaint it. Or do I have to suck it up and drive around with these unsightly body scars reminding me of what another so carlessly did.

Re: Unwanted Paint

Should rub right off using polishing compound or rubbing compound. A cleaner wax or polishing wax might even do the job.

Re: Unwanted Paint

My '93 Metro 1 L has a lot of those WHITE scratches on the top of the car
where, I presume, previous owners have tossed their Keys when getting out.

I thought that the Blue Paint was just very thin with some white underpaint beneath it.

Not so ...!?

I was afraid to "rub it" for fear of making a big WHITE SPOT...

Why white scratches if the Blue is scratched?

Don't understand.........

Re: Unwanted Paint

I don't know why it would be white scratches under the blue unless it's the primer that was originally used. I noticed that I have some from rubbing up against plants and bushes on the back roads. But nothing like the nice white smear someone gave me. I'm pretty sure though that the white that is on there is from the car that left them. So maybe I got some justice and it left blue on their white.

Re: Unwanted Paint

So how much elbow grease are you supposed to use with the polishing compound?

Re: Unwanted Paint

Try a car wax and some elbow grease first. Black Magic wax works well whenever I had to remove paint scrapes.

What is Black Magic wax? I've never even heard of it. Besides how is it any different from normal wax?

Black Magic wax is the Brand Name and was rated #1 by Consumer Reports last year. I've used it on all my cars for many years. It did take out a nasty red paint scrape on my white Camaro and a white scrape along the side of my black Metro. I did have to use a fair amount of elbow grease though. Any regular car wax with mild abrasives should do. That's what I would try first before using a rubbing compound which is more abrasive. As far as how much elbow grease...start off lightly then slowly add pressure until you start seeing results.
