Re: Mazda vs Subaru
I think Subaru's are far more reliable than any Mazda/Ford product.
As for what I would pick: Impreza RS if I wanted a toy/weekend car/car to mod. Legacy if I wanted a DD. Not that the Mazda is a bad car, but i'm more a Subie freak. I am a big fan of Subaru's looks up to 2004 models.

I would have to say that Mazda is one of my fav Japanese manufacturers and I really do like the RX 8. The looks may be funny and has to grow on people, but its practical and fun and that rotary engine design is just great. I have always loved Subarus too. Just love them... especially for their boxer engine. Quote:

). Ok no a DD car is a car that you daily drive with. like a car to get you from home to work, school, store, and what not. aren't the RX-8, RS and legacy in total diferent price ranges.

Re: Mazda vs Subaru
Is there a specific reason why you would go for a legacy 2.0 or an impreza RS? I think if you're looking for performance + practicality, a WRX would be right up your alley. It will be faster, more practical, more economical, and more reliable than the RX-8, and it should be priced relatively similar.

Re: Mazda vs Subaru
Subaru whether it be the Impreza or the Legacy. They ARE more reliable. I am happy to here you have not been burndend with breakdowns on the Mazdas you have driven. However, look at consumer reports which tally up problems from different cars from different companies. In that aspect Subaru>Mazda. I also like how the Impreza/Legacy look better as well.

Re: Mazda vs Subaru
Well I am looking for a DD car. A good economical alternative would be a Corolla or a Honda Civic. These are way too common for me. I'm looking for something that has more punch.
Since my fam has owned mazdas before and we never had any problems with them, I was considering a Mazda 3 or 6, but soon decided on the RX 8. Considering I'm a single guy, its got power n looks as well as practicality. Subaru came into my list when I saw the new 2007 legacy. What a dream.... Its big, spacious and has got a certain style. Plus I have always loved Subarus... Given a choice in between an Evo and a Impreza, I would easily take the Impreza. So there you go... thats why I chose the list : Legacy 2.0 Impreza RS - WRX would be even better Mazda RX 8 |

i personally would go for an impreza wrx. if you truly are the sophisticated type, or you have children, the legacy will be a great car...just not my cup of tea. |

The rotary engine is not an easy engine to develop.... While you are right that Subarus are way more reliable than Mazdas, I would still consider a Mazda, simply by experience... |

i do wish ford would borrow the rotary for a vehicle or two. it is a great design and has loads of potential. that combined with more AWD cars, and maybe even a diesel powered car may be just what ford needs to stay competitive. i stand by my original statement though. WRX if you're a performance enthusiast, Legacy if you are abit more settled. |

A Subaru would be the clear winner in a choice for something practical, reliable and is also a good performer. However I too maintain my statements that a Mazda has good potential. Not to say that people have not had their issues with them. People have had issues with Subarus too. In East Asian Countries (Singapore, etc.. ) Mazda enjoys a good rep. But then again in those same countries, Subau enjoys a better rep. LOL I too believe that Ford should look into the rotary engine design. But although it has good potential, it isn't as economical as a normal one and there are a few issues in cooling and stuff... But nevertheless, it remains my one of my fav engines and has better potential if given more uses other than just in the RX 8. They could probably build a car to rival all sports sedans if they used the engine in a Mazda 6 with turbos and 4WD. They could make a mid engined supercar using the engine.... They could use a 1.0 ltr version in the mazda 3 with twin turbo and 4WD.. that should be an Impreza WRX rival |

Re: Mazda vs Subaru
I have owned 3 Mazdas and when maintained well they will last forever. Hell my Mazda 323 had 280k on the clock when I get rid of it and it ran fine. I currently have a Mazda 6 and I love it. But if you were to chose between an RX8 and a Subie well there alot of things to think about.
The Rx8 your getting a car that has alot of character. It kind of demands attention where ever it goes. Handling wise they are amazing. By far and all can feel free to argue but it is one of the best handling cars within its price range. Performance wise they are not really all that great in the motor department. You can put money into it but dont expect more then 250 without sacrificing alot of useability. After about 200hp the motor gets kinda quirky. plus it takes alot of money to get there. And as for gas mileage.....they suck! The Subie 2.5rs is a good car as well. They tend to go a lil under the radar in stock form. the boxer motor is a great platform!Turbocharged or not is a good performing motor. You can put in a lil bit of cash and get alot out of it. Handling is pretty good to but stock for stock I give handling to the Rx8. I wouldn't go with the legacy. Thats just my 2 cents. Personally if I were choosing between the 2 I would go with the Rx8. |
