OEM Radio Display

Ok here's the deal. I have a 97 Lesabre limited. I recently purchased a factory OEM radio for the vehicle off of ebay. When it came I noticed it had the 2000 Buick plug in the back with no harness but the vin is for a 98. Beside the fact it could not fit my 97 factory harness. So i purchased a harness for the radio to fit to the back. I then hooked up the wires for a aftermarket cd player i had for an aftermarket radio to the harness i just bought to fit the radio. Color matched them like i always do and when i plug it in the lights around the radio light up. cd player insert and eject work. No other buttons work unless i press the hour or minute buttons. 1200 shows on the screen for about 10 seconds then disappears. The small theft lock red led is blinking. But no loc or anything on the screen. What are the possibilities. I have read about lock codes but im not even to that point yet. please help.
