I can hear the rear main as well as a massive oil leak. I checked the oil adapter and thats clean so I'm pretty certain its all the rear main. How do you change the rear main seal on this sportage? Thank you

Re: 2000 Sportage 2wd rear main leak
register at www.kiatechinfo.com It is free and
you will have all the shop manual, diagrams,.... register, click SHOP, then Sportage "AL" and year, then SHOP and then browse through the menus. The problem you report is uncommon; I'll check from other sources ..yeah HERE ...oil leaks from alve cover has been reported frequently though check THIS out

Re: 2000 Sportage 2wd rear main leak
I did more checking and it's the rear main because its coming from inside the bell housing. The engine itself is free of oil and clean. I replaced the valve cover gasket a couple months ago too. I'm losing about 2 quarts of oil every time I drive it and leaving a pond in the driveway. Thank you for the info. I looked at the manuals and they aren't too specific on how to replace the rear mains. Nice diagram though.

Re: 2000 Sportage 2wd rear main leak
Well as Axeman says in the link I gave, "It appears ..that rear main seal is an external design. Which means you can replace it without pulling the engine or even having to drop the oil pan and crankshaft. But obviously the tranny has to come out plus remove the flywheel."
..so..o..o..o.....
