Check engine light

Hello Im new to this site.My problem is ,I replace my airfilter and forgot to put the cover back on last night. After taking off for work this morning the check engine light came on.I put the cover back on but the light stayed on.How can I reset the code without having to take it to the dealer or to a shop.

Re: Check engine light

Welcome to the forum! Year, make, model would be helpful. Autozone and Advance Auto parts will check the codes for free. Depending on the capabilities of their scan tool, might be able to reset the ECM as well. Before they reset it though, get the codes, then post them here.

Re: Check engine light

DTC's will clear and the light will turn off by itself if the ECM does not see the problem for a certain number of drive cycles. It might take a few days though. The Advance store in Linden should be able to reset it for you immediately, but, get the codes and post them here.

Re: Check engine light

It will turn off the SES light if there are no problems, but it will NOT reset the ECM.
