Re: spring rates
how in the world would i figure it out.
only thing i can think of is taking the springs out one by one and putting 150 lbs on each spring, measuring its deflection, then calculating its spring rate. |

Re: spring rates
I think your best bet would be to call hotchkis or another spring manufacturer.

Re: spring rates
Are you thinking of getting drag race only springs? Most "sport" springs I found are just big block or small block specific.

Re: spring rates
i was going to have a set of springs custom wound for a slightly lower and stiffer feel.

Re: spring rates
theres a company that, if you tell them the original rate and length you can specify your percent over stock stiffness and drop.
i would tell them something like 30% increase in stiffness and 1.5" drop and get a set of four springs in the mail http://www.coilsprings.com/ |

Re: spring rates
the website was down when I tried it. Are they going to be cheaper then jegs or summit racing? I just seen a set at jegs for $273.99 (hotchkis) unless your trying to go lower than 1 1/2"....If you find they are cheaper please post it. I'm thinking of using my income tax return on a suspension for my velle.

Re: spring rates
i dont know about cheaper, but i have a feeling that the stock rates are well balanced in terms of spring rates and body frequency for optimum handling.
if an aftermarket company doesnt do their research and simply makes them stiffer and lower, without balancing the cars springs, then the handling will be off. this way, i can say, the rear spring rate is this... make it 25% stiffer. the front spring rate is this.. make it 22% stiffer. make the front 1 inch lower. make the back 1/2 inch lower. its just more customizable IMO. but in order to do any of that, i need the stock rates, and i cant find them anywhere |

Re: spring rates
Maybe this might be able to help you out.. I dug and dug and dug and this is all I could really find.
http://www.federalmogul.com/en/After...s/Catalogs.htm 1) Select make/model lookup 2) In the window that opens select your vehicles information. 3) Click "steering solutions" 4) Click "front springs" or "rear springs" to look up info. Once the list appears, clikck the to display spring info. These are OEM reproduction springs that have been based off of the OEM specs. Hope this helps ya man.
