99 durango knocking

I have a 99 durango with 97K miles on it. I've always run it with regular gas and never had a problem but lately the engine knock with moderate to heavy acceleration, even on cold days. does this car have some sort of antiknock sensor that might be bad. I hate to think I need to start putting higher octane gas in this guzzler.
