1994 2WD 2.2L auto trans. - what trans's will fit?

I have a 1994 S-10, 2WD 2.2L with an automatic transmission. On my way home from college one of the transmission fluid cooler lines going up to the radiator got a rust pin-hole in it and I lost my fluid without knowing. Now I don't have first gear and I'm pretty sure I'm not going to find it again! I've been searching around (as have some friends of mine at junkyards) for a used tranny I could put in it. Does anybody know what transmissions will fit this truck? Years, other makes like Blazer's, etc? I'm pretty sure the model is a 4L60E. Thanks for any help!

Actually I resolved this a few months ago and got a new tranny out of another truck. I called around a lot of junkyards and from what I could find out, the only transmission that will fit is one out of a '94 2WD 2.2L, not '93, not '95, JUST '94 unfortunately. It can be extended cab. I know this because mine is a long bed regular cab and I got the transmission out of a '94 2WD 2.2L GMC sonoma, extended cab regular bed. I spent almost 2 weeks hunting one down. If you find one, JUMP ON IT, theyre only getting more rare.

Correct me if I'm wrong anyone.

dam im finding that out, I cant find one. the 4L60es are in everything from what im reading on line what makes this one so hard to find? im told one from a camero will fit what do you think?

No idea whatsoever, sorry. All I know about it is what junkyards told me. They know their stuff. Call a few up if you havn't already and ask them what they suggest. Good luck.

why not rebuild it!! if you do get scap yard tranny this is no guarantee it will work.....

Very true, that is the guaranteed way, but I got a bunch of places to quote me $1500-$2000 for a rebuild. On a 13 year old truck with over 100k, its not really worth it. What WAS worth it to me was to hunt down another transmission and take the chance. I got another tranny for $160 pulled from a junkyard and another $300 or so for installation from my garage. Doesn't hurt to try, especially if it's not your main vehicle.

keep searching as those prices are too high to repair/rebuild

Beware of any place that quotes a price for a rebuild without tearing you old transmission down and checking for what is bad in it.
Walk away from them.
Beware of transmission chain stores.
Walk away from them.
Do not price shop.Check around Ask around
Word of mouth.
Family friends coworkers neighbors business people and delivery people.
Mailmen and parcel delivery people get around and notice a lot of stuff.
Even a good parts house knows what shops are good and not good.
Chamber of commerce and better business bureau and city hall.
If you find a good referral to a repair shop go look them over and talk to them.
Look for a clean looking busy place with nice people running it.
Ask a few questions and ask about their qualifications and training.
Not all places have trained tech/mechanics.
If they do not find a place that does.
Even all dealers do not have all trained techs/mechanics.

Shop for quality parts and quality workmanship and warranty..
A good full quality rebuild can run up to a 1000 dollars or more.

For 1500-2K you should be able to get a GM factoiry rebuilt transmission


Check out a factory rebuilt transmission from dealer.
Many are 3 year 50K nationwide parts and labor warranty and going up everyday.

If you go a used find a good salvage yard that checks out there used parts and that gives a good warranty.
Some salvage yards even install for you and give a parts and labor warranty of like a year or more.
