dying interior parts

I'm having a horrible time locating a black console, so I think I'm just going to settle with dying a gray one. My question is, is it possible to dye the 2g center console? how do you do it, and would you reccommend it?

Re: dying interior parts

I'd much rather have a real black console than a dyed one. Good thing my car came from the factory with all black interior...lol. Anyways yeah you can deffinatly dye your center. Theres lots of old threads about it here if you search. I don't feel like helping you search, tired.

Re: dying interior parts

You could try the vinyl/interior paint... i did that with some of the trim and it turned out great. I really like it, but you would probably want some painting experience behind doing that.

I painted my cup holder/ash tray. Its not bad, just paint the one you have and take your time doing it. I painted my carpet with it too. Turned out nice.

I thought I explained this already?

First you remove the parts from the car completely and wash them down with water and dish soap to remove any oils or treatment chemicals. (armorall, etc)

Then you need to rinse them very well and set up to air dry so that your not getting the oils all over them from your hands.

Once they are completely dry then you can spray thin even coats of vinyl dye or plastic paint, depending on the part, onto it allowing each thin coat to dry a few minutes before adding the next. Add as many coats as necessary to achieve the level of color that you desire.

Once finished, I let mine set up for several hours before moving them to a temperature controlled area. (aka, the basement. lol) And then I allowed mine to setup for a good week without being touched so that I knew it would be completely dry and would not have any problems.

Everything turned out flawless and I have no problems with any of it so far.

Re: dying interior parts

Lucky you ..the plastics I dyed are starting to lift out of the pores due to the cold ass weather..wondering if the plastics in my car were a little more saturated with contaminents than I originally noted as it seems like for the first 3 - 4 months it was great but now winter is forcing seperation =(

Is that like a felt material? In my car it was like a vinyl... If it is like a felt or cloth, then use the dye on that part...

LOL, you should get martha stuart to help you out with that.

How much would i need to do my whole interior Bri? From the front pillars all the way to the hatch panels?
I hate the fact that the dash of my car is black and the rest is tan

I can't remember exactly how much I used... I wanna say like 6 cans should do your whole interior, but don't quote me on that number. Also, you will be going from tan to black, so it might take more. I just went from gray to black.

Re: dying interior parts

True, it wold be a drastic change. I just don't know if I have the patience to do that. My console has a broken pice where it screws into the dash, so its loose. Whenever i take off the thing sounds like a freaking vibrator.
