Camaro to Volvo engine swap?

I have a question and am hoping someone here can help me. I have just had the worst Thanksgiving EVER (beside the point but...) and I now have a project in mind but I don't know if it's possible. Basically, yesterday my husband flew to Virginia to spend Thanksgiving with his GIRLFREIND, some 20-year-old chippie I had no idea existed until his bags were packed. He lefta bunch of his stuff here, which he will not be getting back, including his "precious" 1967 Camaro. He also left his stupid boa constrictor, which I do NOT have a clue what to do with.

What I want to know is whether it is possible to put the Camaro engine in my 1986 Volvo 740 wagon? My intentions are to part the car out completely, but I am really attached to my Volvo, had a lot of body work done on it and it looks fantastic, just needs some oomph. Is this a project that is doable?

Thanks in advance,

-Becki B

OK cool, so there are no major mechanical obstacles that make it impossible? I am going to be using his credit cards to pay for it, so the money should be no object.

That project would be more expensive than it would be worth to you. Unless you want to do something completely different for a show or something, then go for it. But it sounds like a big project.

If you want that Volvo to get some go, I say sell the Camaro to a WORTHY collector and take the money and buy a turbo kit for the Volvo. It would be cheaper that way.

Basically the point is that there will be NOTHING left of the Camaro except the engine, which will be in my car. Like his stupid pet snake, I want it gone, dead, nonexistent. I don't want it out there in the world somewhere for him to possibly buy back. There's no way it can be more expensive than it's worth to me because HE'S PAYING FOR IT. The more expensive, the better! I know that one of his cards has a $55,000 limit, so I should be FINE in that department. I'd be calling mechanics right now but they're all closed for the holiday, but I should be able to get hold of someone on Monday and maybe have it in the shop by Wednesday.

It's the tiniest fraction of the wallop he dealt me by abandoning me and going off to his secret internet girfriend's house on Thanksgiving. It's killing two birds with one stone; I turn my Volvo into a muscle car and he loses the only thing that he gives a rat's patoot about.

Re: Camaro to Volvo engine swap?

You would be better off selling the Camaro (check around on the net for collector's prices). If it is completely restored, have it appraised by someone that does antique cars, you may be pleasently surprised on how much it can bring.
Oh, and in the meantime, rent a self storage place, park the car in it and lock it so he can't get to it....and maybe even put the keys in a safe deposite box atthe bank....THAT'LL learn him.
With the money from the sale of the Camaro you could maybe buy yourself a sexy little car like the Pontiac Banshee and have some $$$ left over.

And see if a zoo wants the snake.

Thanks for the advice, but it is just not the same thing at all if the car is left intact. It's really not about the money, at all.

The snake has already been disposed of. And you know what? It's true about snake tasting like chicken.

I would hate to think of a piece of American automotive heritage being dismantled and scattered like that.

Just rattlesnake tastes like chicken...tough, chewy chicken.

I've heard of a similiar story where the wife sold the guys car to a neighbor for five dollars.

I'll give you $20 for it.

It's not right to punish a car for having a bad owner.

Re: Camaro to Volvo engine swap?

as satisfying as it may be to strip his car and have him pay for the engine to be put in your car I'd highly advise against it. From a legal standpoint you are going to get screwed and owe him everything back plus more.... if anything, sell the car and call it good enough ( you can always put something in the contract not allowing the buyer to sell back to your husband) put a number up and im sure you can find someone on here that will take it.

Re: Camaro to Volvo engine swap?

I know you guys eman well but I'm really, seriously not concerned about the costs. He's going to lose it all anyway, so I might as well have some fun with it first. I have found out some things about him since he left on his little flight that mean he will NEVER contest my requirements. I can't even believe he was so stupid as to think that password-protecting his computer would keep me from finding out! I am talking about stuff that would make you puke... it made me feel sick, anyway.

As for "punishing" the car, it's not a living creature so I'm not about to feel bad about that! Not only that, but after reading his email I would feel bad selling the car to anyone, knowing what went on in those seats... bleccch. I should just torch it.
