'96 dodge ram trans

on my '96 1500 with 5.9 v 8 it started slipping as it shifted from 2nd to 3rd gear the transmission shop put some switches in and changed the fluid/filter. it shifted fine for about two weeks now its doing the same thing again. the mechanic/tech showed me the old switches he supposedly put in but he could have grabbed them out of a scrap pile. i see two new looking switches on the side and top of the trans. anybody had this happen?

Re: '96 dodge ram trans

I've got a 94 1500 2wd. The first trans went out @ 355000kms ( revers was gone and it slipped in all forward gears. Got it rebuilt at a local trans. shop. truck now has 392000kms and the trans is gone again ( chirps, grinds, shudders, leaks and is slipping in all gears). I have heard of putting in a 904. With a gear vendors overdrive it could be a 6spd semi-auto.

Re: '96 dodge ram trans

There is another thing to check, the bottom line towards the radatior and it the rubber hose part. There is a nylon checkball inside and there is one thing to do with that checkball: GET RID OF IT! Problem with that checkball is that it melts and will plugs it right up.The rubber hose part is removable with a 3/4" and 7/8" wrench also the special tool that removes gas lines.Take a long #2 phillips screwdriver and try to pop it out.If that does not work, drill it out. Most transmission shops do not know about this.It could be the solenoids inside the transmission too,in the valve body area and there are two of them.Get it scanned for codes first.

any way to check if the solenoids are bad with ohm meter? i have heard about the transducer or something like that and another thing that works with it going out and make it slip gears. have not found out where it is. last go around was $500 + for parts and labor.
