pulling tranny
i thnk i might have gotten in over my head lol . im pulling the tranny out of my 91 grand prix oh eht fun this is . my question is? do u have to drop the front carriege down to get the tranny out or is there some secret to dropping it out the bottom? im in it to far now to quit. any help would be greatly appreciated i just love front wheel drive carssssssssssssssssss .

arent they great? Yes you have to remove the front sub frame. No way around it.

You have to have a specal jig to hold the engine up too.All that is left after the transmission has been pulled are wiring and hoses.

Just currious, do you end up basically dropping the engine & trans out together? Or does the engine still stay bolted in?

Nope, the engine can stay right where it is. As wafrederick said, you do need an engine hook (or two) to hold the motor in place as you remove the subframe.

Boy was that fun . it was a great learning experinece. thanks again for al ur input and direction. to answer ? about pulling both motor and tranny at the same tim?? no u leave the motor in while using such as did a homemade support fixture to hold the motor in place. just when u get ready to put the new tranny in make sur ethe tork converted is seated alll the way on or it will break the oil pump case. like i said before thanks again guys this forum rocks |
