Re: new to nissan

of course theres something better. theres always something better. first of all what are you looking for in a car (be specific), and why do you want the spec V? and why do you want to turbo it?

Re: new to nissan

Treadstone has a bolt on kit for 3100. You can find a 02-06 spec anywhere from 6k-15k. 03 is the best year, IMO. Didn't have AS shitty of a transmission as the 02 did. Also a few other problems were fixed, and the cosmetics of the 02/03 body style are FAR greater than 04+. 06 was the most flawless year, mechanically speaking. These cars are very fun to drive and more unique than a lot of other compacts out there, but trust me when I say they have a SHIT TON of problems. To name a few:
Transmission Problems (mine replaced at 52k, needs replaced again @ 90k. This can sometimes be prevented with the right fluids)
Soft Motor Mounts (easy fix)
Butterfly Screws ingested into the engines (easy fix)
Pre-Catalytic converter failure causing blown engines (easy fix)

For more info on Spec V's:
http://myspecv.com/
http://b15sentra.net/

those 2 sites have all of the knowledge you would ever need about spec v's, and more. Good luck.

Re: new to nissan

if you wanna turbo down the road id advise the se from 00-01 since it has the sr20, which likes the hairdrier more than the spec does, if all else fails you can swap in any sr20 variant with minimal trouble, where as the spec motor swap or turbo is very intensive in the creativity department

Re: new to nissan

but...the compression is still up there so i wouldnt go above what the turbo kit recommends without lowering compression. at least on pump gas.

Re: new to nissan

people are hitting 8-9psi on stock internals iirc with no problems at all.

have you seriously takin a sr20 and putting it into gxe/spec bay? that alone isnt worth the cash. it would be easier seriously to just buy a sr powered car. there have been a handful of people that will convert the spec to a sr20det, and that costs maybe 3500ish. and in the end, you would need the b15 sr engine mounts and things for it to work properly. a se is cheaper than a gxe's these days, as most dont know the difference between the two.

and an auto sr20 to convert it to manual is also a money pit as well. the only transmission that will bolt up would be from the infinity p11 or the b15 se trans that has the viscous diff. the trans alone will cost you from 900 and upwords. this transmission is the FWD sr20 sentra gold essentially. there is work being done to get the qr transmission to bolt up to the sr20, but there is a bunch of stuff needed to buy.. one alone would be the bell housing. there is a thread of its build-up here :

http://www.sr20forum.com/driveline-t...-your-car.html

it all depends on how much powa you want. the sr20 varient of the b15 will hit broken ring land at about 270whp or so on stock internals. the qr25 will need need new internals at about 240whp iirc. and with the sr, you wont have the same tq steer with the turbo.

hell, new rods, pistons, rings, along with a gti-r manifold and t28 from a s15 silvia will get ya about 300+whp. of course you have to do the supporting mods, but that gets listy.

turbo - get a sr20 motor.
all motor - go with the qr.

and i wouldnt try to match the qr all motor bolt on numbers with a sr20de. lets just say there are a handful of N/A sr20de's that are in the 200hp mark. and these are stroked out motors.

re-read and get back to me, i said how hard it would be to change motors on the spec, i know how much work goes into swapping motors in the spec, i DO own one......lol

Re: new to nissan

man.... now i see it. i need to just chill this weekend. hit the slopes and relax. wrote 5 papers yesterday alone. and i got another one to write now. well, i'll write it in the morning before class.
