Re: newb needs help

depends on what you're running. if you're running subs you desperately need the amp because the headunit can only push out a whimpy 20ish watts RMS while most amps will easily do at least 10x that.

running components or coaxial speakers, a better amp isn't nessicary, but it is a good idea. they can improve your overall sound as it'll provide more power for your speakers, so they can get louder without stressing out the head unit and making the speakers clip and sound like crap

Re: newb needs help

more power can lead to being able to turn it up louder without clipping/ distortion

What are your goals? Do you want sound quality or do you want to be the loudest guy on the block? That deck is okay. When shopping for a sub, you need to look at the RMS power rating and not peak. The former is more important. With that said, that Pioneer is rated at 120 watts and that is by far the most wussiest sub i've ever seen. There are also much better brands of amps than Kenwood.

Re: newb needs help

the sup apparantly can only handle 120w RMS which is just weak. The amp puts out 500w RMS.

pick a better sub

Re: newb needs help

ok....well then....
ok, i'll probably get around 5-9 hundred worth of stuff
i wanna get a new head unit (iPod compatable, but i don't need Blue Tooth), 2 speakers, 1 sub, and whatever amp/s i need
i want good sound quality, but if i fell like it, i want the car next to me to hear my music too
in case you need the car, i've got a 2 door 1999 firebird coupe, with stock everything
