97 Power Steering Problem

I put a Remaned power steering pump in my 97 Cavalier a few weeks ago. It worked fine. Last night it quit working. No noise, didn't freeze, just no power steering, but only when I was not on the gas. When I was starting out or driving it seemed OK, when I let off the gas to slow down, it got really stiff. When I installed it, I ran fresh fluild through it a few times to get all the junk out like the book says, then I raised the front end and bled it I put the little flow control valve back in the hose. It worked great for three or four weeks and now bad.
I assume it is just a bad remanned pump, but am I missing some thing? The fluid is OK and looks clean and fresh. Why does it work at higher speed, but not at idle?

Thanks mark

I'd be suspicious of the pump also.

Re: 97 Power Steering Problem

I changed the pump tonight, again. I flushed it a lot more this time and went through the bleeding procedure in the service manual a few times. I'm trying to get all the bubbles out. I left the front up in the air for the night and tomorrow I will bleed it some more. I will see how it goes tomorrow.

Re: 97 Power Steering Problem

We've been driving the thing around the last few days and it seems fine. I hope it doesn't go bad again any time soon, or I will be suspicious. I wish I could have bought a new pump without going to the dealer. The remanned was cheap, but I always wonder about that stuff. I've had troubles in the past with remanned master cylinders too. I buy new if I can. I guess this just makes me wonder about remanned even more.
