No headlights - 2003 CV

the headlights on my CV won't turn on. Everything else;turn signals, parking lights, brake lights, etc works fine, but when I turn the switch on for the lights --- nothing. I've already replaced the light switch, but that didn't do the trick. Someone said the relay may be bad (?). Could it be a fuse? Appreciate some assistance.
(the high beams work but only when I pull back the turn signal arm)

Re: No headlights - 2003 CV

I have kinda the same problem. I'll be drivin down the road and after about 10 or 20 minutes the damn things just shut off. They work when you pull the turn signal arm back but other than that, nothing. Bout 30 seconds later they pop back on. I've tried wiggling wires where the headlight flasher was and everywhere else. Can't figure it out. Good thing I still got the spot on the A- pillar I guess.

Thanks 03 Panther... ended up taking it to the dealership. We'll see what they come up with!

I talked to a guy that works on the cars for a city agency and he said it could be a circut breaker.

Could be the headlamp relay is overheating and shutting them down. Then, after it cools down some they will come back on. That or the circuit breaker if it has one. That's got to be a PITA for night driving.

It's not the circut beaker cause I yanked it out while driving down my road lastnight. Didn't do anything to the head lights. When they go out I can whack my LCM and they come back on.

Re: No headlights - 2003 CV

found your problem and for the low low price of about 4-500 dollars it will be fixed.

LCM is lighting control module. It is located above your right foot up under the dash.

Re: No headlights - 2003 CV

Yeah as way2old said it is above your right shin. I could always give mine a swift bump with the palm of my hand and the lights would come back on for a little while. Eventually replaced my LCM. Gonna cost you about $500 from the dealer. Might see if you could get one from a junk yard.

Re: No headlights - 2003 CV

I have the same problem on a 2003 P71: headlights will turn off by themselves, then come back on a few minutes later, then turn off again etc.

Apparently, this is a known problem with the LCM (lighting control module), and it involves one particlular relay: the headlight relay, on the LCM. I learned about this on crownvic.net:

http://www.crownvic.net/ubbthreads/u...02#Post1437302

So you can either replace the headlight relay (apparently involving un-soldering of the bad relay, as explained in the post), or you can remove your LCM and mail it to this guy:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

who will repair it for you for a $45.00 fee with free return shipping.

Or, you could go to a dealer and pay hundreds of dollars ($400 or $500 or more from what I've read).

I don't know what I'm going to do yet, depends on whether somebody I know is able to do the unsoldering and the external wiring (external to the LCM board). I think I'll find out tomorrow. The relay itself can be purchased online including shipping for less than $15. I think it can also be purchased at auto parts stores for a similar price. But there is a warning in the crownvic.net post: "I DON’T RECOMMEND DOING THIS UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOURE DOING." So I might end up paying the $45 to the eBay guy, as well as shipping the LCM to him, which might be another $5-$10, so my total cost for the repair will be $50 to $55.
