Exclamation 1993 Sunbird Heating/Vent Problems *PLEASE HELP* chicago + winter= COLD!

Chicago=Harsh Winter
Hello,
I have a 1993 Pontiac Sunbird, when I turn on the vents for heat, the heater will blow, but little or no air flows through the vents... Its almost like the air is just seeping out of vents, even though they are set to high. The same happens for the A/C. Almost as if something was blocking the air, trying to come through.

I do have heat, The blower motor works, The heater core must be working because I have heat.

Me and my pops have spent hours looking for the problem,
and cant find it out.

I'd appreciate anybody's help.

Thanks,
Joey A.

i have the same problem with my 91 bird, and i also live up in green bay,wi. mine doesnt blow alot of air either. their are resistors for ur blower motor for the lo-med.-hi speeds on your blower motor, i think they are on the outside or just behind the glove box. this might be your problem.

Another problem could be the vacuum control for your HVAC controls.... All the control flaps in your heating and a/c ducts are controlled by engine vaccuum, you have a bad control dial, loose lines, or the check valve in the line from the intake to the firewall is bad, (generally above the oxygen sensor area on 3.1s.....) If vacuum is not routed properly to these flaps, they will restrict (block) the amount of air flow

Re: 1993 Sunbird Heating/Vent Problems *PLEASE HELP* chicago + winter= COLD!

I know exactly what the problem is, and it is a VERY simple fix. I have had a cavalier and now a sunbird with this very problem.

Here is what you do: remove the blower motor. Reach in with your hand and feel the heater core. What you will find is a thick coating of black stuff covering the entire heater core. Scrape as much of this stuff off with your fingers and then use a vacuum to suck the rest out of the heater box. Now, take an air hose and a blow nozzle (with an L shaped end) and blow through the heater core to get the last of the black crap out of the fins.

What this is, is mold and dirt that has accumulated on the heater core.

I have had 2 convertibles and they are cold cars if the heater doesn't work. I know what you guys are going through. THIS WILL FIX YOUR CAR.
