Help - shifter keeps getting stuck

I just started having a problem with my 96 monte carlo. The shifter gets stuck in P and I have a hard time trying to get it into reverse. Also, sometimes it won't click into P and I have to jiggle it until it pops into P to turn off the car.

Can anyone help? What's the problem?
