Cold Air Intake Up or Down?

I recently bought and installed a Cold Air Intake on my wife's '93 Del Sol. It has the 1.5l bottom of the line engine and I was looking for a cheap way of improving performance. I bought the kit off ebay for $60 which included shipping. There were no labels or instructions. After installing it, I reviewed the installation recommendations on www.teamdelsol.com and noted that the filter was supposed to be in the fender well. But it also said that for wet month driving you could mount the filter on the first section of intake pipe in the engine compartment which is how I mounted it. Why would I want to change it? Question 2, on the accord forum, they discuss resetting the ecu after changing plugs, wires, adding cai's etc.... Is this necessary on the Del Sol? It seems that since I put the new plugs and wires in, the mileage has gotten worse. PLEASE HELP!

Well the Idea of mounting the filter in the fender well right under the passenger headlight is to get the intake away from the hot engine bay because cold air is denser and can fit more molecules in the cylinder which in turn means a bigger explosion and = more hp. I have had it on mine for a while and have had no problem in the rain. The only time you would have to worry about it is if you submersed the filter in water and it sucked a large amount of water into the engine which is not good for obvious reasons. AEM makes a bypass valve that allows you to use the cold air setup and if the filter becomes submersed then it takes air through the vavle if you wanted to take that route.

As for the loss in gas milage, it shouldnt be much but whenever you gain power you use more gas, you are adding more air to the engine which needs more fuel to burn it all completely. Last but not least the ECU, it is more trouble than it is worth to reset it for small bolt on parts. Unless you are doing major mods you should be fine with it how it is.

you can reset the ecu by disconnecting the battery

that guy was right- but you have to unplug the batt for 15 min to actually reset the comp.
