Doesn't sound too bad. I had somethign similar. My 95 had the same thing, it would overheat and then blow cold air. Sometimes getting the air out of the system is a bitch.
I would say you ahve air in your system. Open the bleeder valve and purge the air out of the system.
One word of caution is to look for how air gets in there. If its been like it since the rad change, you are probably safe with just air not having been purged from the system. If it just started hapening, keep an eye for white exhaust or milky oil... that may be an indication of a bad head gasket.
