Unhappy 91 Caprice 9c1- I need your help

hey 91 Caprice9C1. Is there another version of the timing gear setup, for the 1990 geo, 1.0 motor? My Camshaft gear looks nothing like the diagraham. Mine is a solid type disc, with 8 holes around the diameter. One smaller hole with a slash line through it. This gear looks more like a Hub, than a cut gear. Probably the smaller hole with slash is the marker. It also is not in the circular "line" with the others. My crank GEAR looks like the diagraham, and has the punch "dot" just above the keyway, on gear tooth. The rest of my rear cover, does not resemble the diagraham. It does not have any absolute clearly visible marker or arrow etc. cast on this thing, to line up with. what the hay? totally weird. i have fooled with this thing for three days now, for this and that. Jeez, am i frustrated, and still NO START! Can you help? Also, is the firing order 123 ccw. or 132 ccw. rotation? I seen it listed both ways, misprint no? Thank you for your time.

This is as close as I can get to the cam sprocket you are describing.
The little hole with the line through it is your cam mark.

As far as having no reference on the oil pump to align the crank sprocket with, what you can do is gently put a screw driver down into the #1 spark plug hole, and turn the crank until you find the point at which the screwdriver will raise no further. At this point you will be in the ball park. There must be some kind of indication somewhere on the oil pump; maybe spray it down/clean it off with some brake cleaner? I dont know if you are dealing with an obstuction of view or not... I have yet to come across a metro with no reference mark of some kind but I don't have any models earlier than 93. Anyone else have this problem before?

Firing order is 132, ccw if you are standing on the driver side of the car, facing the passneger side, and looking at the dist. cap. Clockwise if you are standing on the passenger side facing the driver side. That is - the top of the crank pulley will spin toward the front of the car.

We must be sure that your ignition wires and timing belt are installed properly before we move on to diagnosing a no-start condition.

Goodluck and post back
