Exclamation 99' Civic Transmission swap questions

Hello all,

My car:
1999 Honda Civic LX
D16Y7
EK
Automatic

Looking to replace the automatic transmission with manual

Few questions:
1.) If i do a transmission swap, how much will it cost?
2.) Will i need a new gauge cluster or just gauge face?
3.) Will my insurance rates increase?
4.) Will there be any legal/paperwork etc.?
5.) I have the AEM 214P Cold Air Intake (for my 99 civic lx auto)- will this trans. change make it unusable?

Future upgrades:
-2.25" piping with Apex'i WS cat-back exhaust
-Short shifter
-Gauges and gauge face

Thanks in advance, take care. Please get back to me ASAP

Re: 99' Civic Transmission swap questions

Haven't been into hondas for a while so I'm not 100% sure on pricing, but the last time I got estimates on an auto to manual swap it was about $1200, but that was for a 93 Integra which was going to have a B16 tranny with a cable clutch. It will be a little more for a car that will need a hydraulic clutch setup like yours.

You could get new gauges if you like. Since you have an LX it has a tach already right? Getting a new cluster is totally up to you.

Your insurance won't increase. It might if you tell them that you did the swap, but there's really no point in reporting mods unless you have some expensive mods or are extensively modified.

No paperwork to be done, just make sure you keep all paperwork from the shop that does your swap.

Lastly, your intake has nothing to do with the tranny. Don't worry about it.

But it won't be as much money/time as an entire engine swap though right?

I will just have the P,R,4,3,2 on the dash still if i don't replace the face...

I think I would probably invest in a Si gauge face...

Well, I am cutting holes in where the pedals go and the shifter and doing mods/replacing ECU, engine... still is not required?

Ok, cool... By the way, I noticed your in the Seattle area.. Do you by any chance know of any good/reliable shops that would do this?

Thanks for the info. Get back to me whenever you can. Anyone else have input/info?
