2001 Aztec rear shocks

New to this forum. Purchasing a 2001 Aztec with 90,000 miles. It came with self-leveling shocks. Mechanic says the shocks are bad. Should I forget about the self-leveling shocks and just use standard-high quality aftermarkets made by Monroe. I don't want to change the shocks and find that the compressor or other leveling sensors go bad and then get stuck in that system. Thanks.
