I have no clue what could be wrong. Did the dealer actually diagnose the problem for you? Typically the dealer will give you the highest possible estimate for a repair (jacked up labor rate + jacked up parts costs) and they also aren't the best at diagnosing the source of the problem; instead they typically replace what they 'think' is broken, and they assume it will be fixed; if that doesn't work, they'll not only charge you for that part, they will charge you for future parts and labor that will be required for fixing the part. Bottom line, avoid car dealerships! They are lazy, greedy, and dishonest (exceptions are very rare) and will do their very best to rip you off. Sorry I have no other advice to offer.

Most likely the problem is in the speedometer cable not having sufficient grease. That is why when the car warms up the speedometer starts working. You can take you car to a regular mechanic describe the problem and tell them you want to have the cable greased or if that fails to solve the problem you can just replace the cable. Also the stealership will rip you off everytime if you show them you are unsure of the problem and possible solution. Always get a second opinion. Another place for parts is online, ebay, or salvage yards. I hope this helps you as I had this same problem on my 99 Maxima.

Very easy to diag at the dealer. All you need to do is drive the vech with the Nissan scan tool, and monitor the speed through the speed sensor on the trans. If the speedometer fluctuates and the scanner does not. The problem is in the speed O head. If you see it reading erratic on the scanner, it is the speed sensor on the trans. From my experience, most of the time it's the speedometer. There is no cable to the speedometer. Gl..
