92 Stealth issue!
Okay, I bought my car almost a year ago and I have two questions.
1. When I put my foot on the gas, the car hops......you know like when you first learn to drive a stick shift. However, I have been driving a stick for years and have never had this problem. Hubby says it might be the fuel pump. 2. The fuel gauge has said full since the day I bought it!!! It never drops to empty. Can anyone tell me what part I need? As you can tell, I am new to this. I don't want to be screwed by a mechanic and I want to learn to do some of the work on my car by myself. Can anyone help??? Thank you!

Re: 92 Stealth issue!
Is your car a manual or an automatic?
The fuel gauge could either be a problem with the gauge itself or the float in the tank could be stuck or not working.

Re: 92 Stealth issue!
First of all, welcome to the forums.
![]() On to your problem: 1 - It sounds as though you're describing a misfire causing the car to "buck"? Generally spark plugs and wires will fix this issue, but there are MANY possibilities for the cause of it. If you could give some more details on the problem we might be able to pinpoint the problem for you. 2 - As said it could be the fuel gauge itself, or it could be the float which is inside the gas tank. More likely the float which is a part of the Fuel Pump Sending Unit, which is what you'd need to fix it. As for fixing these things yourself, on a scale of 1-10 with an oil change being a 1, I would say both these jobs rank around a 5.

Re: 92 Stealth issue!
Do you have a check engine light lit up on your dashboard?

Re: 92 Stealth issue!
Okay, I am sorry I haven't been on lately. Computer problems.
The car is a manual transmission. Yes it seems to "buck" forward. (very good description BTW) There are no check engine lights. I was planning on replacing the fuel gauge and the sending unit. The car definitely needs some work but it is my baby and I really want to learn to do some of the work myself. And yes I am a woman! The last thing I helped work on was the motor that moves the window up and down. Thank you guys for helping. |
