01 Oil Leak... Somewhere

my wifes '01 3.5 has developed an oil leak. I found a small bit of oil on the floor yesterday and thought the pressure side power steering leak had returned. I took it to the Pontiac place today because i figured the supposed PS issue was now beyond me...

Told them of three issues: PS leak, Oil Guage says 130 all the time and an intermitent service stability message. They reprogrammed something to take care of the service stability issue.

They said I needed to take it to a Cadillac dealer to get the oil leak dealt with. Something about needing special tools. Their assessment was that it was on top of the engine, somewhere. There is some oil pooling visible under the intake system. This MIGHT be left over PS fluid from the leak a few weeks ago. I've cleaned it up as best i could and will see if it comes back. Crawling under it shows oil coating the pan and points rearward. I reached behind the engine as best i could from up top and didn't feel any oil.

(sorry for the long lead in)

I'm wondering if the oil guage reading 130 and the oil leak are related. Would a busted sending unit cause the read out to stay at 130? It's not losign a lot of oil, the puddle is maybe a couple inches across the last couple of days.

Re: 01 Oil Leak... Somewhere

The answer is.... Yes, a busted sending unit can cause the oil pressure reading to be 130 all the time and be the source of a leak. Costs about $140 to fix.
