96 LS 3.1 Tranny

I'm going on my third transmission, but this time the guy thinks the torque converter is bad not the gears like that last two times. Does anyone know of any reason why my car goes through trannies like it's going out of style?

Re: 96 LS 3.1 Tranny

Are you hard on the car? I haven't heard of transmissions going out that frequently. I do also know that pre-1997 4T60E transmissions had a problem with the reverse reaction shell disintegrating and destroying the rest of the transmission, but the problem should've been corrected the first time it was rebuilt by replacing it with an updated hardened steel unit. What are the symptoms you're experiencing?

Before it when bad the first time I was a typicall teen driver but since it got rebuilt I've been realy easy on it. This time it just shifts wierd and will slip if you give it too much gas. He said the gears were fine but the torque converter was bad, the other two times it was the gears that went bad.
