Transmission Leak 1999

My van has a bad transmission fluid leak. I removed the pan and re-sealed but it still appears to be leaking.

I'm thinking it may be the solenoid pack and or solenoid pack gasket. I have also seen posts where people experience the pump seal leaking.

Actual transmission is strong and shifting fine.

Any past expeience/tips appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: Transmission Leak 1999

Have you cleaned the transmission by pressure washing so you can pinpoint where it is leaking? When you removed trans oil pan did you use a gasket that may have slipped out place while reinstalling pan or did you use a silicone sealant? Check to make sure your cooler lines from trans to radiator are not the culpert leaking or loose line connections. I believe there is a cover on the solenoid pack that can be removed to see if the pack is leaking. Post back where it looks like it leaking and we will try to help out more.

Good luck

Re: Transmission Leak 1999

Took the car for an inspection and they told me that I have a slow leak on the passenger side of the tranny that the dealer needs to fix. It's just above the pan around some hoses I think. Is this where the solenoid is?

Re: Transmission Leak 1999

Tempfixit, I followed your lead, it was the solenoid pack. It was leaking from the stainless steel cover on the front. I removed the pack and re silliconed the seal.

Seems to be ok now.

Thanks for your help.

Re: Transmission Leak 1999

Here is a site that shows a picture of the tranny: http://www.robskorner.org/faqs/Trans...ans33.html#93v

The solenoid is on the side facing the front of vehcle and yes the solenoid is under the transmission lines going to the radiator. The picture of the tranny shows location of solenoid, input and output sensors. The trans cooler lines are above the input sensor. Whomever did your inspection for you should have gave you much better explanation of where the slow leak is located. Was this a transmission shop that did the inspection? If you can give us a more accurate location of the slow leak I think we can help you fix this for a lot less than a dealership will charge you.

Hope this helps and we can help you further.
