Unhappy 99 Taurus - wipers intermittent

Anyone have any experience with the front wiper relay, switch, etc.? My '99 has been driving me crazy lately and am putting my foot down. The switch can be off but they still activate, not sure why. I've heard rumors of replacing the multifunction switch, but I was hoping it would be quicker/easier/cheaper.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!!

Re: 99 Taurus - wipers intermittent

I had the same problem on my 99, so I removed the switch, disassembled it, and cleaned everything I could. The fix was good for about 6 months. Finally, I spent the $70-ish on a new one and it's been fine now for a couple of years.

Re: 99 Taurus - wipers intermittent

Mine is doing the same thing. I bought the multifunction switch from an online Ford dealer (1stfordparts.com). I'm going to install it this weekend.

Edit: just did the switch swap. Easy to do. The hardest part was getting the electrical connectors off of the old switch. Had to fanagle two small screwdrivers to release the tabs.
