Talking 1972 Celica project

My friend and I just bought a 1972 Toyota Celica for $250. We are going to turn it into a highway racer. We are going to probably going to do a 4A-GE 20v blacktop engine swap, and other various mods. Suggestions for mods. would be greatly appreciated, but please be reasonable (we are still in high school and have limited money). Pics. will be posted very soon. hope you all will enjoy!

Re: 1972 Celica project

Im afraid I have a problem. The car turned over after we (my friend and I) disconnected the fuel line and put gas in the carb(thats not the bad news) we had also changed the oil and drained the radiator and put new coolant in, after we tried starting it, we changed the spark plugs, but then the spark plug thread broke off in the head and some of it went in the cylinder. So we decided to take off the head. When we did, we saw the valves had hitting the pistons and damaging them. Plus cylinder 3 (which had the sparkplug problem) was completely ROASTED and had 1/4 inch of junk covering the piston. So now I decided to just get a 16 valve 4a-ge and swap that in. If any of you can make custom motor and transmission mounts or have a rwd 4a-ge and 5spd. for sale, I would appreciate some info on that. Im sorry about not posting any pics I will try to put some on tonight. I have pics of when we just got the car, and when we took the head off.

Re: 1972 Celica project

looks like it will be a cool project. Hope your dedicated. due to the fact that I'm not rich. I'm going on two years on my project, the whole front end is completely rebuilt, but I haven't even gotten to the body yet. But it will be worth it in the end.

Re: 1972 Celica project

yeah your best bet is to wait til you have a place to do it, that isn't controlled by other people. Wait til you have the money and the time to do it. I wouldn't suggest starting that project, when your broke and have a girlfriend. Be single, and make good money cause that project will eat your expences. Well Good luck.

cheers

Re: 1972 Celica project

This is an old post, but are the photos still available somewhere? I can't seem to access them.

Sure would like to see what was done with the car along the way.

Thanks.
