hood cable handle broke
Hi,
1993 3.1 Euro, went to pop the hood, and the handle broke off in my hand... I today tried with vise grips on the rest of the cable, no dice... is there anyway to release the hood hinge at the hood itself? or some other way? I have a GM cable replacement for this, but I need to get the hood open. Also, anyone ever changed the hood cable on these 93's? are they tough? Thanks |

Re: hood cable handle broke
also wanted to add - when I tried with vise grips to release it, it dodn't do anything... the cable was pulled as hard as I really could, short of ripping it out of the floor :-) - I guess that hinge is seized a bit? I noticed it getting tight in the summer, but never got around to re-greasing it... should have darn!
any thoughts, ideas? I need to get the hood open ASAP |

Re: hood cable handle broke
are you sure that the end of the cable on the inside of the car hasnt simply come out of the release lever? Mine did this a few years back. It was cold outside and I pulled the lever too hard, separating the cable from the lever. If I recall correctly, the end of the cable has a "T" shape that sits in a groove underneath the release lever...I can't remember for sure though. I had to use some pliers to reconnect the cable to the handle. Not sure why it's so difficult to unlatch the hood without the lever, perhaps the cable isn't being pulled at the correct angle.
