Re: 98 Monte Carlo water pump removal!!

Thank you Chevrolet Tough and Blaze 316 316 for helping.
Chevrolet Tough. Yes, I did removed the belt and be able to turn the pulley but the problem bolt just hit the edge of it when loosen.
Blaze 316 316. I will look for those 3 bolts you mention. I will see how difficult to remove them. I am below average weekend mechanic. I don’t know if I am going to be able to do it.
This is 3.8 liter motor. Shop wants more than $300 to replace it for me.

Thanks guy..

Re: 98 Monte Carlo water pump removal!!

You have to remove the PS pump to get to the last water pump bolt. Unless the engine is out of the car, this procedure all has to be done by feel. The two bolts that hold on the PS pump are at approximately 12 and 6. You have to rotate the pulley to a place where there is an access hole to get a socket onto the mounting bolts. Both bolts are 13mm and are fairly easily removed. However, putting the pump back on is an adventure. You just have to move it around until you get the bolt seated in the hole. If you are given to fits of rage, I would suggest taking it to a mechanic.
