'99 Shock absorbers
My '99 LT (2WD4DR, towing package) with 132,000 miles has original shocks. I believe the ride is not quite as dampened as it used to be, but as you know, it's hard to tell after eight years. Here's the question. The originals are Bilsteins (says so on the shock) and have the numbers 150 323 28 and 9292044W00 stamped on the lower portions of the rears. I have not removed and examined the fronts. The shocks are gas charged and seem to dampen quite a bit when I compress and release them by hand, and there are no signs of leakage. Rock Auto and my dealer offer a part number from their books, but neither can tell me if the replacements will be Bilsteins, and neither recognizes the numbers above. Can any of you tell me how I can determine if these old shocks are still performing well and if not, what part numbers I can use to assure that I will be buying the exact shocks that were original when I bought this vehicle in '99? My recollection is that the new ride was positive and firm but very dampened, or at least didn't cause any bouncing. Thanks for your help.

Bounce the vehicle. It should bounce once, maybe twice after you stop pushing if the shocks are good. On a vehicle this size, you may need to jump on the bumper to get enough movement.
Even if they're not leaking, internal parts can wear and allow more movement than they should.

I just replaced my with bilstein shocks from auto zone mine did not leak but were shot after 130,000 I got the comfort ride ones and you feel like your riding on air.

Can you tell me the part numbers of the shocks you installed? When mine was new it didn't feel like riding on air, but I think it was a more dampened ride than I'm getting now. Is your's 2 or 4 WD? 2 or 4 DR?

I do not have the part numbers I knew auto zone could order bilstein shocks so the looked them up and offered comfort ride and something else. I have a 4wd 4door.
