01 T&C Transmission shifting issues

My 01 I just had the transmission replaced at 75,000 miles. A Chrysler transmission, 3 yr, 80,000 mile warranty. It's about 2 months old. It is a 3.8 engine. It has a new PCM also. The brakes are newer and are not dragging. I have no codes, it just says "done" when tested. New battery/Alt, belt, tune-up, engine runs fine. The grounds are clean and tight too. The electric connectors have been cleaned as well.

Seems like when I got the transmission replaced it has shifted different than the old one. The old one shifted smooth, had no problems till I drove it with a bad speed sensor. Anyways I got it replaced with the new one, including the cooler and lines. Seems fine when cold up to it being warmed up. Cold here is about 65 degrees being in Fla. of course. When it gets to normal temp. the shifting at low speeds is hard, sometimes it feels like it is lost when it needs to shift. Sometimes at 35/45 mph I let off the gas and it feels like it's in a lower gear, then it shifts. If I push the gas hard all shifting is fine. And every once and a while everything will work just fine. Any ideals?

Thank you to all the Veterans! Happy Veteran's Day!

Re: 01 T&C Transmission shifting issues

Bear in mind, the only experience I've had on trannys was on 3rd generation 4speeds. You have a 4th gen van. Since it's under warranty, I'm sure you've brought it up to the dealer. What do they say?

Any salty tranny mechanic will tell you any time the tranny is replaced a new torque converter (TC) should be installed and the tranny cooler should be flushed. Why? Metal particles will get trapped in the torque converter and the cooler. Thesel particles can migrate to the new tranny and destroy it. Did they do this when the tranny was replaced?

When a tranny is replaced with a TC, the TC has to go through a breakin procedure and the tranny has to have a "quick learn" procedure, both done by the dealer. Did they?

Did they do a quicklearn on the trans? If they did not do this it can really mess up the shifts. How many miles on the rebuild?

Re: 01 T&C Transmission shifting issues

I would like to add - if you make a fist and hold it about an inch away from a counter and hit it real fast, this is what it feels like when it shifts from 1st to 2nd sometimes.

3500 on transmission

The dealer told me that there could be 100 different causes for this issue. They also told me that they reset the PCM when the transmission was replaced, they what 85 to check it now. They told me the PCM will tell them when the last reset was done, with a date. Is this true? Thanks

Still seems like at a steady 45, 55, 65, if I let off the gas alittle or increase it, it feels like the torque convt. shifting of something. back and forth quickly.

Re: 01 T&C Transmission shifting issues

Can the dealer find out when the last quicklearn was done on the PCM by date?
