Question 2000 bmw 740 il power steering feels harder

I have a 2000 740 in which the power steering started to feel harder to steer. It seems I have some power steering, but not the way it used to be.Is there something electric assisting the power steering pump because it acted out once before and I just cut the car off and restarted it and it worked fine, but know its always harder.

I am going through the same thing with my 2000 740iL. Mechanic normally very very good, but cannot figure this one out. Did you? I saw the '97 guys replaced hoses...

Not sure if this is common for E38, but E32 the servotronic (powersteering control module) will get old/fail.

Don't know if this is a fix or not, but thought I suggest it. Maybe find a breaker and see if you can find a good p/s module and swap out to see if that cures it.

Have you found a fix for this yet. DSC control unit needs to be replaced. Only if production years are 9/98 to 8/00, and this happens immediately after starting vehicle, but can be reset by turning off vehicle. Maybe you should go to your local dealership for a true diagnosis.

That's only good for an extent. Sometimes it will give you error codes that aren't always accurate. Sometimes the OBD will tell you that a system is finished when it is fine when another system related to it is actually at fault. So it's not entirely a true diagnosis sometimes, but it will give you a better idea of what's going on...

Down side is if it pulls Diag Codes for systems you didn't think were malfunctioning, you'll worry about it until it's fixed.

How about a filter change in the PS reservoir, did the job on my E32.
