My 1992 Taurus Idling Problems

My Car idles like its going 55mph, when it idles up high, it will not go back down and causes the car to jerk into drive and reverse, i need to know 2 things, Is it the Throttle Position Sensor and where is it located? Can i change the myself?

need to kno a bit more about the style of motor what size? and TPS can be changed by yourself its 2 bolts/screws, should be right on the Throttle body.

its a Taurus L 3.0 V6, what is it near, do you think that is the problem?

The TPS is not overly expensive, but it's very easy to test with a multimeter. I'd suggest you test it for linearity prior to just replacing it.

You should also check for vacuum leaks, verify the Idle Air Control is doing it's job, and that there isn't a build up of carbon on the throttle plate preventing it from closing completely.

The Duratec wasn't in the Taurus (if it was even in production) till 1996.
