Starting issues with 2002 LeSaber warranty running out!
Hi,
My 75 mother purchased a used 2002 Buick LaSaber with 44k miles from a local Toyota dealer. Car was in very good shape, didn’t seem to have any issues. Previous she had the exact same car but was involved in a serious accident in which someone slammed into her. So she wanted to replace it was the same car. The issue is when she turns it over it sputters, most times taking two cranks to kick over. We took it back twice for the issue, the first time they said they changed the spark plugs and it should be ok. Still had the issue and brought it back, this time they thought the key chip might be the issue, also cleaned this that. It is still doing it. The 60 day warranty is up this week and my fear is they are just stalling until that expires and then its our issue. Any thoughts or insights would be extremely helpful! |

Re: Starting issues with 2002 LeSaber warranty running out!
Hello
This sounds like it's not getting fuel on the first crank. I would try turning the key on but not to start for about 3 seconds (the fuel pump should run when the key is turned on to get fuel psi built up). Turn the key off and then back on for the same amount of time. Then turn the key to start. If the car starts right away, I would say that either the check valve in the fuel pump isn't doing it's job by keeping fuel in the fuel lines, or there is a restriction in the fuel system. Regards Dan

any resolution to this issue? I have an 01 and 02 in the family that have the same problem. However it more appears they are flooding. Won't start until the gas pedal is depressed and when it starts blows black smoke. Doesn't do it everytime but every so often. Of one is my moms and the other is my Grandmothers. any thoughts???

Re: Starting issues with 2002 LeSaber warranty running out!
Usually when you have a problem under warranty that you took back, if the problem isn't fixed like you described, that is covered under the 60 days since you had the problem (and brought it to them) within the time period.
Lets say you brought it in on the 59th day. They took two days to fix it. You don't pay for the second day in the shop. I would ask someone in your area about, if you bring a car in under warranty with a problem, the problem is not fixed within the period, is it still covered. I would ask someone who would know for sure (BBB, law, even the place where you bought it), since a lot of people don't know this is how it works. Key is communication. Talk to the place where you bought it about your concerns. Chris. |
