Z71 fuel gauge

I have a 1998 Z71 with 150 thousand miles. Over the weekend my fuel gauge started jumping very fast almost like a fluttering or vibration. Also when I first start the vehicle the gauge pegs all the way down to the right in which it has never done that before. I just recently changed the fuel pump and that seems to be operated very well. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you-

Re: Z71 fuel gauge

It sounds like you got a bad pump/sending unit, or it was damaged on install. What brand pump did you use?

Re: Z71 fuel gauge

If I were you I would try to get my money back on the Bosch and buy an OEM pump. From what i've heard from other people's experiences with aftermarket pumps is that they are junk.

If you can't get your money back, you could try another Bosch. It just takes a lot of time and effort to replace these pumps, and it's probably not something you want to keep doing.

Re: Z71 fuel gauge

I have never had to replace the pump but it sounds like a sending unit problem...was there a new sending unit on the pump?

Re: Z71 fuel gauge

It is a sending unit problem. In my previous posts, I was referring to the complete fuel pump/sending unit assembly.

Yes...I understand what you said but because the original poster said this:I just recently changed the fuel pump and that seems to be operated very well. I was wondering if he kept the original sending unit.
