96 Blazer Knock Sensor

Trying to find the knock sensor on my 96 blazer. Cobra posted a picture on an old thread but I am unable to load the picture.

I was going to just take off the distributor and see if I could locate it as Mike described but I am unable to figure out how to get the distributor off. I was able to get the cover off but don't know where to go from there. As you can see I am not the most mechanically inclined but I can usually figure it out with a little help.

Re: 96 Blazer Knock Sensor

To remove distributor:

Step #1- Disconnect negeative battery cable

Step #2- With the distrubtor Cap ON, pick a spark plug wire close to firewall and a spark plug wire on the other side of cap. Mark them so you know which wires you referenced too. Use a straight edge that is long enough to set across the 2 spark plug wires you choose and touches the fiewall of the vehicle. Mark the firewall with a marker of some kind to show the exact setting of the distributor. Disconnect the electrical wires to distributor.

Step #3- REMOVE DISTRIBUTOR CAP. Using a straight edge again mark the location of the rotor on the firewall.

Step #4- Remove the bolt that holds the distributor in place. Slowly lift the distributor upwards, ( If I remember correctly the rotor will rotate counter clockwise) Once it stops rotating again use straight edge and mark location of rotor on firewall.

To reinstall reffernce to your markings on the firewall in reverse order and your engine should start.

These engines can only be timed with a scanner so take your time and you sould be allright.

Hope this helps and goodluck

Re: 96 Blazer Knock Sensor

tempfixit, thanks for the help, I got the distributor off. It was easier to find the bolt holding it in once I removed all the wires. Still no sign of the knock sensor, any suggestions?
