Unhappy 97 Aurora Lumbar problem

I have a 97 Aurora that seems to have developed a problem with the lumbar switches. When you press them they work for a second then they don't work. The lights in the panel where they are located go out, the lumbar pump stops working and then after you turn off car for a minute or two and then start it again, the lights on the lumbar support come back on. If you push the lumbar button again, the same thing happens all over again. Anyone have any ideas on this??? Thanks.

Re: 97 Aurora Lumbar problem

First look at the driver side door wiring harness that goes between the door and the car. There are a lot of thin guage wires in that harness that are prone to breaking and wearing thin. A very common issue with these cars and the cause of 95% of the problems related to windows, seats, courtesy lamps, and blown fuses.

Re: 97 Aurora Lumbar problem

Thanks for the info. I went through the lumbar wiring and didn't find any breaks in the wires or ground issues. I guess it's not a big deal. Now I'm on to the nest issue. Does anyone have a wiring schematic for the steering wheel audio/fan controls? They haven't worked since I got the car. Thanks again to everyone who has helped me. It's VERY much appreciated.

Re: 97 Aurora Lumbar problem

You say that you checked the lumbar wiring, but didn' t mention what a pain that was! Did you actually take off/cut off the boot in the door jamb and unwrap the whole group of wires and them separate them looking for broken wires? This is where you will find the 'about to completely break' thin wire. Mine would work for a while if I had the door open, but wouldn't if I moved or closed the door.
