01 Celica gts shifting problem

when i drive my celica and im in 5th gear and i want to down shift i cant go down from 5th to 3rd i have to hit 4th quick same with first i have to go from 3rd to 2hd to 1st, if i try to skip them it grinds ive never had this problems on my other cars i was wondering what it could be and what u could do to fix it

What rpm range are you in when your shifting?

usually i let the rpms drop completely and roll alittle bit and if im in 4th going to 3rd it doesnt it when im going over 40 mph

This is very odd. Has to be something inside the transmission itself. Id say throw some in there and see if it helps. Lucas Transmission Fix and Transmission Fluid Additive. If it doesnt either ignore it/take it to a reputable transmission place and see what they say. Should be able to give you some ideas just by driving it.

Are you saying that it grinds when you try to put the shifter into the gear or when you let off the clutch?
