Windshield wiper will not shut off 91 Q45

Hello,

The windshield wipers do not work in the intermittent mode , they will work in constant slow and fast modes. I can live with that part. The part that is annoying is that when I turn the wiper switch to the off position the wiper motor will not shut off. It will only shut off if I leave the wiper switch in the off pisition and then turn the ignition key to off. Everything is fine once I start the car again. The wipers remain off. However once I turn the wipers on again I can only turn them off by repeating the previously desribed procedure .Any suggestions?
